Name and Occupation?

Emily Bennett - Marketing & Communications Coordinator

How did you get into coffee?

I had never been a massive coffee drinker. Teachers' coffee breath during school really put me off. I never understood the hype around it because all I had ever tried was instant coffee. Now I'm on my specialty coffee journey, I love it. I love it when we cup new coffees and we all gather around to try it.

What is it that you like about coffee specifically?

The variety of flavours. I never knew there were fruity coffees before I started here, but I'm so glad I know about them now. I think the variety of flavours is excellent as they can be enjoyed at different times of the day.

What is your favourite coffee origin, and why?

I love hot chocolate so I really enjoy our South American coffees which have nutty and chocolate elements. Our Daybreak Blend is a personal favourite of mine. It holds a special place in my heart as it was the first specialty coffee I took home to make on my own.

Washed or Natural, and why?

Difficult question as I am new to coffee but I think I prefer washed. I'm sure that will change and change again as I try more coffees.

How do you drink yours?

At home and work, I drink filter coffee black. The first coffee-making equipment I took home was the AeroPress and it's been a favourite ever since! When I'm out and about, because I love hot chocolate, I always order a mocha.

What is your proudest achievement in coffee?

I've learned a lot about coffee in a short space of time and I'm quite proud of myself for that, especially as I didn't drink coffee before I started working here. Also the launch of our Brazilian Pinhal coffee. It was the first big coffee launch I worked on and it was a particularly special launch to work on due to the donation to Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and the relationship David has with Pedro, the coffee farmer.

If you were not working in coffee, what would you be doing?

I studied marketing at university intending to work in social media. I'm lucky that I have gained so much marketing experience that when this job came up, I knew it was the one for me. If I wasn't here, I would probably be working for a digital marketing agency wishing I was working for a company like this.

If you could change one thing in the coffee industry, what would that be?

It would have to be that more people knew about specialty coffee. I often hear from our customers who have drank instant coffee previously and are now enjoying specialty coffee and won't go back to instant. I hope this is something I can change in my role here at Rounton Coffee.

What do you do away from coffee?

Outside of work, I love spending time with my friends and family. If I'm out with my friends, I can usually be found with a cocktail in my hand. I recently got back into swimming after doing it throughout my childhood and I'm really enjoying it. It's the perfect way to de-stress. Other than that, I enjoy long walks with my dogs Marlowe and Marnie, listening to music and attending concerts.
