1% for the Planet

1% for the Planet

In 2023, we joined the global movement 1% for the Planet. What this means is that whether we make a profit or not, we donate 1% of our annual sales to the initiative, as well as local environmental causes.

1% for the Planet

What is it?

1% for the Planet is a global movement that aims to ensure the thriving of our planet and future generations. We have joined the cause and have pledged to donate one percent of every sale to support environmental organisations focused on the environment, whether we make a profit or not.

The global movement was initiated in 2002 by Yvon Chouinard, founder of Patagonia, and Craig Mathews, founder of Blue Ribbon Flies. By contributing 1% of their annual sales, thousands of 1% for the Planet members, including us, have come together to use their voices and resources and raised millions in funding to support environmental partners around the globe.

Our Commitment

We're on a mission to sustainably source and make specialty coffee accessible without compromising the environment. We pay a premium for the coffees we source. This premium not only ensures high-quality beans but also directs more funds back to the communities that cultivate the coffee. It's an investment in infrastructure, agronomy, and education, crucial elements for the sustainability of coffee production globally.

We believe that all businesses have an important role to play in the mitigation of the climate crisis.

Under the 1% for the Planet scheme, we support a number of local environmental charities. Read on to learn more about them...

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust

Yorkshire Wildlife Trust is a charity dedicated to conserving, protecting and restoring wildlife and wild places in Yorkshire. Established in 1946, Yorkshire Wildlife Trust has grown to manage over 100 nature reserves.

The charity wants people to have a meaningful connection with nature. To achieve this, they work in partnership with farmers, councils, schools, and businesses.

We work closely with the team at Yorkshire Wildlife Trust and our support has resulted in us gaining a Bronze Membership.

Project Waterfall

Project Waterfall is working hard to end the water crisis, especially for those living in isolated and rural areas. Their mission is to bring clean drinking water, sanitation and education to coffee growing communities.

Everyone has the right to clean water, but sadly for over 785 million people around the world, that is not the case. The alignment of values between ourselves and Project Waterfall is evident, with us both sharing a mission to serve coffee-growing communities.

Ribble Rivers Trust

Ribble Rivers Trust aims to conserve and improve the River Ribble, and all the rivers that flow into it. For over two decades, their dedicated team has been using their knowledge of the local area, and the natural world, to improve over 375 miles of rivers in Lancashire and North Yorkshire.

Initially set up in 1998 by a small group of retired anglers, Ribble Rivers Trust has a simple aim; to improve rivers for wildlife and people.

Ouseburn Trust

Ouseburn Trust is working towards creating a vibrant, diverse and sustainable future for Newcastle Upon Tyne’s Ouseburn Valley.

Since 1996, the independent charity has been working with volunteers, the local authority and the business community to enhance the physical, social and economic environment of the Valley, whilst promoting and preserving the area’s heritage and valued ecosystem.

If you’re wondering how you can get involved, just know that by buying our specialty coffee, you are helping to take care of our planet.

It’s as simple as you buy, we give back.
