This Tuzamurane natural coffee is from a Rwandan Women's Coop. It has delicious flavours of strawberry, mango and white grapefruit.

The coop, which was set up in 2020, is called Tuzamurane mu Guhinga Kawa cooperative, which translates to Let’s Uplift Each Other Coffee Farming. It was established to improve the lives of women in the community, particularly those who had long been engaged in coffee farming. Represented by Kayitesi Felicite, the cooperative now consists of 21 members who have united around a shared vision of empowerment, self-sufficiency and sustainable development.

As part of International Women's Day, we are releasing three coffees that have been cultivated by female farmers.

This Rwandan natural is like a fruit salad in a cup, although it won't count towards your five-a-day...

Rwamatamu, Rwanda

Rwamatamu is as picturesque as the coffee is tasty. High altitudes of over 1800 masl and regular rainfall make this the ideal place for producing bright, refreshing and natural coffees.

Fruity & Sweet

Refreshing notes of strawberry and mango are at the forefront of this coffee, with a white grapefruit finish. It is a fruity, clean delight that will be perfect in the warmer months.

Natural

The ripe coffee cherry is picked and left out to ferment in the sun, turned regularly so that no mould grows. The enzymatic reactions that occur here sink right into the seed (or bean), and leave you with a coffee that's full of funkiness and complexity.

Tuzamurane mu Guhinga Kawa

Women's Coop

The journey of Tuzamurane mu Guhinga Kawa began with a simple yet profound idea: to provide women with the means to own and cultivate their own coffee farms.

Members of the cooperative receive plots of land and coffee seedlings, enabling them to grow and harvest their coffee. This initiative addresses one of the key challenges faced by rural women - access to land and resources - and provides a foundation for financial independence and improved quality of life.

Once the harvest is ready, it is sold, with the proceeds distributed equally. This system not only guarantees fair compensation but also eliminates the need for intermediaries, allowing the women to retain the full value of their labour.

At its core, Tuzamurane mu Guhinga Kawa is about more than coffee farming; it is about uplifting women and empowering them to transform their lives.
