Why We Love Blendsmiths

Why We Love Blendsmiths

Believe it or not, there are times when we just don't fancy a coffee. Sometimes, that feeling comes when you're in the middle of a coffee festival, and you've sipped more brews than you can shake a stick at... Luckily for us, our neighbours when we exhibited at 2018's Manchester Coffee Festival were the newly established Blendsmiths!

These folks specialise in creating innovative drinks that are designed to bring a smile to your face, whilst being delicious, colourful and nutritious at the same time. At their core, Blendsmiths share many of the same values as us: transparency, environment, sustainability, and tasty drinks.

It's no wonder then, that we've been stocking their blends since we left the festival... Let’s take a closer look at four of the signature drinks from their range - the ideal solution for home brewers and café owners alike, when coffee just isn't on the cards.

Turmeric Latte:

Turmeric is a spice that has been used for centuries for its medicinal properties, and is more accurately known as haldi doodh. It is believed to have anti-inflammatory properties, as well as being high in antioxidants. This blend is made by combining turmeric powder from Northern India with ginger, cinnamon, star anise and black pepper. This delicious drink is not only healthy but also helps to boost immunity and aid digestion. It's particularly good when served with coconut milk over ice. Find it here.

Matcha Latte:

Matcha is a type of green tea that has gained popularity due to its many health benefits, purportedly aiding in weight loss, detoxification, and boosting the immune system. It’s made by grinding high-quality green tea leaves - the youngest shoots from the top of the plant - into a fine powder. Blendsmiths source their matcha from Uji, Japan - the home of the matcha tradition. Matcha is typically enjoyed as part of a tea ceremony, brewed with hot water only. However, this blend includes a little pinch of cinnamon and is equally tasty with milk (hot or cold). You can even try using matcha in your home baking! Find it here.

Masala Chai:

Masala chai is a traditional Indian drink that has been around for centuries thanks to its numerous health benefits and healing properties. The Blendsmiths recipe is true to a traditional masala spice blend, combining black pepper, clove, cinnamon, star anise, ginger and cardamom. Looking for a unique twist on this classic? Try adding honey or coconut milk instead of dairy! Find it here.

Beetroot Latte:

Beetroot lattes are becoming increasingly popular as they are associated with numerous health benefits such as helping reduce blood pressure levels, improving digestion, detoxifying the body and being packed full of vitamins and minerals. To make this delicious drink blend Beetroot powder with warm milk (or alternative vegan milk), and sweeteners such as honey or maple syrup then top with optional ingredients such as cocoa powder for that complementary earthy note.
