Migoti Hill Honey from Burundi is rounded and well-balanced fruity coffee with a smooth honey aftertaste that will leave you wanting more.

Migoti Coffee works with hundreds of community-owned farms in the foothills of the Migoti mountain in West Burundi. The mountain overlooks Lake Tanganyika and provides the perfect conditions for growing the red bourbon varietal.

When the cherries arrive at Migoti washing station, the coffee and its pulp are placed onto raised drying beds for 18-22 days, being turned over regularly and sorted through to remove defects. It is then transported to the miller to get graded by size and density. After milling, the green beans are sorted to remove some remaining defects and assessed.

Burundi may be one of Africa’s smaller coffee-producing countries, but coffees like this remind us why it commands such attention from coffee lovers around the world.

Migoti Mountain, Mutambu Commune of Bujumbura Province

Migoti Hill washing station operates in a region referred to as Migoti Mountain, in Mutambu Commune of Bujumbura Province, 30km from the centre of Bujumbura. Burundi has the perfect conditions for coffee production: elevations of 1500 - 2000m, Arabica Bourbon coffee trees, abundant rainfall, and approximately 800,000 families who cultivate an average of 150-200 coffee trees per farm.

Honey

After arriving at the Migoti washing station, the cherries are sorted by hand to remove defects. The coffee in its pulp is placed on raised drying beds for 18 - 22 days, being turned over regularly. Once it reaches 10 - 11% moisture, it is ready to be milled. After milling, the green beans are sorted to remove remaining defects. The coffee is assessed by the Quality Lab to finally put into Grainpro and sacks for quality preservation before it is shipped.
