Ngila Estate sits at 1,500–1,600 meters above sea level on the edge of the cloud forest near Tanzania’s Ngorongoro Crater. The 100-hectare farm borders a 50-hectare forest corridor that enables wildlife, including elephants, to follow traditional migration routes and reach mineral-rich caves. Its proximity to the Ngila River also supports seasonal reforestation efforts that reduce erosion and enhance biodiversity.
Vibrant, expressive, and effortlessly drinkable. Expect layers of ripe blackberry and tart damson, rounded off with a gentle warmth of ginger.
Coffee cherries are hand-sorted and processed at Ngila’s on-site facilities. After pulping and washing, the beans are fermented in tanks for 15 hours, then dried on raised beds for 14 days. Once moisture levels have dropped sufficiently, the coffee is sent to Rafiki Coffee Mill in Moshi.
Batian offers vibrant juiciness, with layers of ripe blackberry and tart stone fruit, underpinned by gentle spice and a rounded sweetness. This one is great for filter brewing.
