Tuzamurane Coop - Anaerobic is a remarkable coffee from a Rwandan women's cooperative, offering rich notes of port, cherry and cranberry.

The Tuzamurane mu Guhinga Kawa cooperative - meaning Let’s Uplift Each Other in Coffee Farming - was founded in 2020 to support and empower women in the community, particularly those with a long history in coffee farming. Led by Kayitesi Felicite, the cooperative consists of 21 members who share a commitment to self-sufficiency, sustainable development and economic independence.

This anaerobic-processed lot brings an intense depth of flavour, with its vibrant fruit character balanced by a rich, wine-like complexity.

As part of International Women’s Day, we are proud to showcase three coffees cultivated by female farmers - each telling a story.

Rwamatamu, Rwanda

Rwamatamu is as picturesque as the coffee is tasty. High altitudes of over 1800 masl and regular rainfall make this the ideal place for producing bright, refreshing and natural coffees.

Bold & Wine-Like

Rich notes of port and cherry take centre stage in this coffee, with a tart cranberry finish. Its bold, wine-like character makes for a truly indulgent cup.

Anaerobic

The ripe coffee cherries are sealed in oxygen-free tanks, where they undergo a slow, controlled fermentation. This enhances bold flavours, resulting in a coffee with deep complexity and a rich feel. After fermentation, the cherries are dried to lock in their unique characteristics.

Bold Intensity

Bold Intensity

With bold notes of port, cherry, and cranberry, Tuzamurane Anaerobic has a deep intensity and rich sweetness that shines both as an espresso or a filter brew.

Tuzamurane mu Guhinga Kawa

Women's Coop

The journey of Tuzamurane mu Guhinga Kawa began with a simple yet profound idea: to provide women with the means to own and cultivate their own coffee farms.

Members of the cooperative receive plots of land and coffee seedlings, enabling them to grow and harvest their coffee. This initiative addresses one of the key challenges faced by rural women - access to land and resources - and provides a foundation for financial independence and improved quality of life.

Once the harvest is ready, it is sold, with the proceeds distributed equally. This system not only guarantees fair compensation but also eliminates the need for intermediaries, allowing the women to retain the full value of their labour.

At its core, Tuzamurane mu Guhinga Kawa is about more than coffee farming; it is about uplifting women and empowering them to transform their lives.
