How did you first get into coffee?

It was when my wife, Terri, and I were in the Dominican Republic on holiday. We had freshly brewed coffee every day in a percolator. This was the first time I had experienced anything other than Douwe Egberts and Costa. I've been learning more and more ever since.

What is your favourite part of working at Rounton Coffee?

There are so many things I love about working here that I can't pick just one. Our team is just great, and there is never a dull moment in the building. We're able to sip some of the greatest coffees from around the world, some of which I'm lucky enough to roast myself when we're able to pull Jamiel away from the roaster! I take pride in being part of our team, knowing we are making a positive impact in the coffee world and beyond.

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned about coffee since you started working here?

It has to be all the different brew methods. From espresso, to cold brew and siphon. There are hundreds of different brew methods and countless ways to use each one, and that's where the fun is. Not so much for Terri, however, she rolls her eyes every time I bring a new gadget home!

What’s your favourite spot in North Yorkshire to relax or have a coffee?

I have a pretty decent setup in the back of my car to brew fresh coffee on the go. Terri and I love to pull up our camping chairs and have a chat while I brew us some great coffee through an AeroPress. We will go all over the area, but my favourites are Clay Bank and Cod Beck. I also love it at the beach if the wind isn't too strong!

How do you drink yours?

I feel like I've half answered this one already! I'm always trying new ways to brew, but my go-to favourite has to be cold brew. It's easy to prepare and convenient for grabbing on the go. Failing to have prepared some, you can't go wrong with a faithful filter, especially the AeroPress. But personally, I've always preferred the cold.

What is your favourite coffee origin, and why?

It has to be Colombia. There are some great coffees coming to us from all over the world, but for me, nothing beats the stuff coming out of there. Whenever I'm deciding on some beans to take home from the roastery, I always seem to settle on the Colombian as my daily driver.

What do you do away from coffee?

Outside of coffee, I spend most of my time with Terri. We are big ice hockey fans and love watching our local team in Billingham. We often wake up in the middle of the night to tune into the NHL season when it's on. Especially the Minnesota Wild! We also love Eurovision. We get into it every year, and everyone at work thinks I'm mad, but it puts a smile on their faces!
