Every coffee tells a story. Our first special release of 2025, Typica Mejorado, is no different. Beyond its exceptional flavour notes of parma violets, rose water and strawberry, this coffee comes wrapped in a design that reflects its journey from Colombia to your cup.
The sleeve for this release is a special one for us as it was designed by our very own Sales & Service Administrator, Millie, who drew inspiration from Colombia’s culture, wildlife and landscapes.
A design rooted in Colombia
Millie’s design was shaped by the colours of the Colombian flag, but rather than using them in their boldest form, she softened and muted the tones to create a more harmonious and cohesive look. These colours flow across the sleeve, interacting with each other in a way that echoes the coffee’s complexity and depth. When unfolded, the sleeve can be opened to reveal the flag - a subtle yet meaningful nod to Typica Mejorado’s origins.
A landscape of flavour and nature
Colombia is a country of rich biodiversity, and this is reflected in the sleeve’s artwork. Jaguar silhouettes, spider monkeys and wax palm trees - some of Colombia’s most iconic species - are woven into the design.
These creatures don’t just add to the visual appeal; they are integral parts of the ecosystem surrounding the farm where this coffee was grown. The funky lines and organic shapes mimic the lively character of the coffee itself, bringing its vibrant personality to life.
Hidden details
Look closely, and you’ll notice small details scattered throughout the design, like a treasure map waiting to be explored. Little details like tasting notes and bits of the landscape are sprinkled across the sleeve, drawing you in to explore the world of Colombia and Typica Mejorado. The text follows the flow of the illustrations, designed to fit seamlessly into the composition rather than disrupt it.
On the back of the sleeve, a striking red panel tells perhaps the most powerful part of the story. A farmer, holding a coffee plant above his head like a trophy. Behind him, a winding white track symbolises the unpredictable road of coffee farming - one that is becoming even more turbulent due to the challenges of climate change. The white house in the background represents the home of the farmer and his family, a place of resilience and dedication.
Above it all, the sun and moon stand as reminders of the delicate balance required for growing coffee. Climate, time and patience all play their role in shaping the beans we roast and the coffee you drink.
