How did you first get into coffee?

I was first exposed to the world of coffee when I was at university, taking work breaks and catching up with mates over a cup or two at Jericho Coffee Traders' shop on the high street. It was here that I bought my first piece of coffee equipment (an AeroPress) and my first bag of speciality coffee. I don't use the AeroPress as much these days, but it was a great starting point.

What is your favourite part about working at Rounton Coffee?

Having the opportunity to taste some of the best coffees from around the world every day is a great privilege. Each coffee tells a story of the people who grew it, the land it came from, and the care that went into its journey from the farm to our roastery.

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned about coffee since you started working here?

I've really enjoyed learning about different coffee varieties with Jamiel, about their lineage, their particular characteristics, and how this might affect taste and your approach to roasting them.

Where is your favourite spot to relax or have a coffee?

I love making coffee in the kitchen at home, and then drinking it outside on the bench in the garden. Life can be incredibly busy at times, and I think there's something really nice about taking some time to slow down and relax with a cup of coffee.

How do you drink your coffee?

I like filter coffees for their depth of flavour. I've bought and experimented with so many different brewers over the past few years, but I keep coming back to the Hario V60. It's an incredibly simple piece of kit but produces a really nice, clean cup.

What is your favourite coffee origin, and why?

My favourite coffees I've tried so far have come from either Central America (Panama, Costa Rica and Honduras) or Colombia. If I had to choose one country, Colombia would probably edge it. When I first joined, the special-release Typica and Pink Bourbon coffees we had completely blew me away.

What do you like doing away from coffee?

Outside of work, I enjoy hiking in the hills with my girlfriend and friends. I'm also a lifelong Middlesbrough supporter and have been going to games with my dad since the age of seven.
