A constellation of stars in Great Taste Awards 2020

We are delighted to announce that we have been awarded 3 stars for our Two Stories blend, in the Great Taste Awards 2020. What’s more, our Daybreak Blend and El Salvador – Bosque Lya have both been awarded a star of their own!

When it comes to food and drink, these are the most sought-after accolades of all, and it’s amazing to be recognised amongst the world’s top producers. What’s more, the 3-star award is given to just 1.6% of products, which we are over the moon about!

Daybreak and Bosque Lya

Our Daybreak Blend has only been with us since January 2020, but it has become a firm favourite in such a short space of time. The judges gave one star to the blend, which is currently comprised of coffees from Peru and Guatemala.

The relationships we make are so important to us, which is why the 1-star award for El Salvador – Bosque Lya is extra-special. We visited Joe Melina at Finca Bosque Lya back in 2018, and couldn’t imagine the roastery without his coffee in it.

Two Stories

Two Stories was developed to showcase two coffees with a tale worth telling. It’s a blend of the fruitiest most radical tasting coffees we can get our hands on, designed to offer something different to the status quo. Two Stories is currently made up of coffees from Kisinga, Uganda, and Rocko Mountain in Ethiopia (one of our all-time favourite coffees).

As well as the privilege of having the coveted black and gold badge, this award has an extra-special meaning. Our goal is to roast coffees that are traded sustainably and taste delicious, and to make those coffees as accessible as possible. Two Stories gives you the chance to enjoy a great brew, and to look in more detail at the people who make it possible. With this 3- star award, we hope that we can help people be as excited about these coffees as we are.

What makes it special?

The coffees from Kisinga are made possible by Agri Evolve, who are dedicated to training farmers in the latest developments in agronomy and elevating the status of Ugandan coffee. Not only has the quality of coffee improved in recent years, but the farmers producing the coffee have seen the price they receive double as a result.

Rocko Mountain is a coffee we’ve sourced year after year – its juicy, funky notes being one of the best examples of a natural Ethiopian that we’ve ever tasted. Paired with Kisinga, you’ve got a blend that pushes the limits of what coffee can taste like – that’s what Two Stories is all about.

What are the Great Taste Awards?

Judged by over 500 of the most demanding palates, belonging to food critics, chefs, cooks, restaurateurs and producers, as well as a whole host of food writers and journalists, Great Taste is widely acknowledged as the most respected food accreditation scheme for artisan and speciality food producers. As well as a badge of honour, the unmistakeable black and gold Great Taste label is a signpost to a wonderful tasting product, which has been discovered through hours and hours of blind-tasting by hundreds of judges.

Where can I buy these coffees?

Two Stories can be found on our website, alongside the other award-winning coffees, and much more. You can also find them in our shops in Middlesbrough, which you can find here.
