How did you get into coffee?

After leaving the automotive industry, I decided to open up a café in Bishop Auckland. I knew very little about coffee at the time, but when I met David and the Rounton Coffee team, my mind was blown.

What's your favourite part of working at Rounton Coffee?

I love working with and meeting such a broad range of people who are passionate about making a positive difference.

What's the most interesting thing you've learnt about coffee since you started working here?

Coffee needs a period of time to rest and degas after roasting before it's ready to use. People often obsess over roast dates, but in reality, you need to let the beans breathe a little first!

What's your favourite spot in North Yorkshire to relax or have a coffee?

Visiting our wholesale partners and sharing a cup and a chat with them is one of the most rewarding parts of my job. I also like taking in the fantastic scenery at Castle Howard and its surrounding grounds.

How do you drink yours?

I'm actually a tea drinker most of the time, but my drink of choice when it comes to coffee is definitely a cortado.

What's your favourite coffee origin, and why?

Yellow Bourbon from Colombia is my all-time favourite coffee, but I love the Ethiopian coffees we get in too.

What do you do away from coffee?

My other love outside of coffee is football. I'm a big fan of Newcastle United and Durham Women FC, and I love watching and coaching my daughter's grassroots team too.
