How did you get into coffee?

I was introduced to the world of coffee over a decade ago, when my husband, David, encouraged me to join him on his journey. From the very beginning, I developed a deep passion for coffee, and it has since become an integral part of my life.

What’s the most interesting thing you’ve learned about coffee since you started working here?

The most interesting thing about coffee is how it brings people together, no matter where they're from. Its taste can change based on where it’s grown, how it’s roasted, and how it’s made. Coffee also has a rich history and is important in many cultures around the world.

What is your favourite part of working at Rounton Coffee?

My favourite aspect of working at Rounton Coffee is the incredible people we've had the privilege of meeting throughout our journey. We've cultivated meaningful relationships with a diverse range of individuals, from customers we first encountered at farmers' markets to the businesses we supply and the coffee farmers we source from. These connections are essential to our success, and without them, our business would not be where it is today.

What’s your favourite spot in North Yorkshire to relax or have a coffee?

My favourite spot in North Yorkshire to enjoy a coffee is in Saltburn. There's something special about sitting in the back of the van on a cold, dark evening, with a view of the sea. We typically prepare our coffee at home, and our trusty flask accompanies us wherever we go.

What is your proudest achievement in coffee?

My proudest achievement in coffee is witnessing the growth of Rounton Coffee and being involved from the very beginning. We started by selling at farmers' markets on weekends, which were challenging times. Seeing how far we've come since then is incredibly rewarding, and I’m grateful to be part of such a remarkable journey.

If you were not working in coffee, what would you be doing?

If I weren’t working in coffee, I would likely be pursuing a career in customer service, where I could continue engaging with and helping people. In addition, I’d probably dedicate time to running a creative business on Etsy, combining my passion for creativity with the opportunity to share unique products with a wider audience.

If you could change one thing in the coffee industry, what would that be?

I think the coffee industry is evolving nicely, businesses certainly in the UK are becoming more and more accountable for their impacts, and their actions. I think this evolution needs to be accelerated though, there is a lot of damage being done around the world, and we have an opportunity to try and reduce or limit this impact.

If you were a coffee blend, what would your flavour profile be?

If I were a coffee blend, I'd be a smooth mix of bright acidity and rich flavour, with a balanced, satisfying finish. Like a great espresso, I'd be versatile and leave a lasting impression, offering a unique taste that evolves over time 😜

What do you do away from coffee?

I enjoy staying active through running and fitness, as well as reading and unwinding - ideally in a warm destination with my family. I also have a passion for art and live music.
