Getting to Know Tracy
Name and Occupation
Tracy Beattie-Lee – Accounts and Business Mentor
How did you get into coffee?
I was introduced to the world of coffee over a decade ago, when my husband, David, encouraged me to join him on his journey. From the very beginning, I developed a deep passion for coffee, and it has since become an integral part of my life.
What's the most interesting thing you've learned about coffee since you started working here?
The most interesting thing about coffee is how it brings people together, no matter where they're from. Its taste can change depending on where it's grown, how it's roasted, and how it's brewed. Coffee also has a rich history and plays an important role in many cultures around the world.
What is your favourite part of working at Rounton Coffee?
My favourite aspect of working at Rounton Coffee is the incredible people we've met along the way. From customers we first encountered at farmers' markets to the businesses we supply and the coffee farmers we work with — these relationships are at the heart of everything we do.
Without them, Rounton Coffee simply wouldn't be what it is today.
What's your favourite spot in North Yorkshire to relax or enjoy a coffee?
My favourite place to enjoy a coffee in North Yorkshire is Saltburn. There's something very special about sitting in the back of the van on a cold, dark evening, looking out over the sea.
We usually prepare coffee at home, and our trusty flask comes everywhere with us.
What is your proudest achievement in coffee?
My proudest achievement is seeing how Rounton Coffee has grown since the very beginning. We started out selling at farmers' markets on weekends, which were challenging but exciting times.
Watching how far the business has come since then is incredibly rewarding, and I'm grateful to have been part of that journey from the start.
If you were not working in coffee, what would you be doing?
If I weren't working in coffee, I would most likely be working in customer service, where I could continue engaging with and helping people.
I'd also probably be running a creative business on Etsy, combining my love of creativity with the chance to share unique products with a wider audience.
If you could change one thing in the coffee industry, what would it be?
I think the coffee industry is evolving in a positive direction. Businesses, particularly in the UK, are becoming more accountable for their impacts and actions.
That evolution needs to happen faster, though. There is still a lot of damage being done globally, and we have a real opportunity — and responsibility — to reduce that impact.
If you were a coffee blend, what would your flavour profile be?
If I were a coffee blend, I'd be a smooth mix of bright acidity and rich flavour, with a balanced and satisfying finish. Like a great espresso, I'd be versatile, leave a lasting impression, and offer something that evolves over time 😜
What do you do away from coffee?
I enjoy staying active through running and fitness, as well as reading and unwinding — ideally somewhere warm with my family.
I also have a real love for art and live music.
