Getting to Know Emily
Q: Name & Occupation
A: Emily Taylor - Community Engagement Manager
Q: How did you get into coffee?
A: I started with the classic thing of ordering the sweetest drink possible at Starbucks, caramel frappe, NO COFFEE! I always thought coffee was for adults. Late into my teens, I realised coffee didn't need to be overpowering and bitter, but could be enjoyed sweet - life changing! From that day on, not a day goes by that I don't have coffee. Guess what?! I now have it rich and dark. Little Emily would be so proud.
Q: What is your favourite part of working at Rounton Coffee?
A: The people. Simple. I have never worked for a company that cares so much, not only about their customers but also about their colleagues. Everyone is supportive, helpful and caring. It's honestly the best place I've ever worked. People also include customers. There are so many kind people who want to learn and discover the world of coffee! I love hearing stories and being friendly with our customers.
Q: What's the most interesting thing you've learned about coffee since you started working here?
A: Everything! I joined Rounton Coffee with very little knowledge about the coffee world. On my first day, I was thrown in at the deep end and learned about the life of a coffee bean, how the roasters work, coffee flavour notes, origins, etc. It's opened my eyes, and it's made me appreciate coffee so much more.
Q: What's your favourite spot in North Yorkshire to relax or have a coffee?
A: I really enjoy drinking my coffee at work. Free coffee, free baristas and wonderful flavours?! What more could you possibly need!
Q: How do you drink yours?
A: I love an iced latte, which I know will get a few people shaking their heads at me, but I love it! Unless I'm at work, where I drink my coffee black... we simply have no milk in the fridge.
Q: If you were a coffee blend, what would your flavour profile be?
A: I think if I had a flavour profile, I would be something a bit dark and bitter, so let's start with chocolate. However, it would then be balanced with something like orange, bright and hopefully a bit warming. Going down the warming route, I'd like cinnamon, maybe? Milk chocolate, orange and cinnamon. Like autumn in a cup!
Q: If you were not working in coffee, what would you be doing?
A: I would be working in marketing (which I do now). I think I would be focusing on creative content for my other loves in life, such as cheese, One Direction or films... now that would be the dream job!
